Our Story
Founded in 2012, led today by the people running the work
Wright Contracting was founded in 2012 by Bill and Rachel Gardner — both mechanical engineers by training — after careers that ran from Schlumberger field engineering to twelve years as a vice president at a long-established Knoxville general contractor. The idea was simple: a general contractor with the expertise and financial ability to perform large, complex projects, that stays selective about the work it pursues.
Today Griffin Asplund and Matt Wooten lead the company day to day. Griffin came up through Wright's own estimating, project management and field ranks and now leads pursuits and project operations; Matt runs administration and the University of Tennessee and State Building Commission work. Their focus sets the direction: deeper relationships with the institutions we already serve, and steady, deliberate growth over volume.
More than a decade in, our work is concentrated where it is hardest — occupied buildings, tight sites, and phasing and coordination that make a project difficult and risky. The University of Tennessee, the State of Tennessee, KUB, ORNL, the Air National Guard and East Tennessee municipalities keep calling because we deliver under those conditions.
